MetaTouch invites visitors to explore a digital landscape through touch. Within the installation, a 'cabinet of curiosities' featuring tactile modules offers varying surfaces, weights, and resistances. By engaging with these physical forms, participants move beyond mere observation, using their hands as the primary interface to navigate and reshape the virtual field. As surfaces are pressed, traced, or held, the installation translates real-time touch data into haptic visuality. Movements ripple outward, creating a real-time visual-tactile mapping where patterns expand and evolve in response to sensory-kinetic input.
Touch normally shapes how we recognise objects, understand space, and connect. In MetaTouch, that familiar experience is extended into the digital realm. It creates a space where physical presence and virtual imagery unfold together, questioning how redefined tactile etiquette can foster empathy and deeper embodied connection within an increasingly digital world.
